cable connection issue

i've been having a problem with my cable connection. i have charter cable high-speed at 100.00(?)mbps. my modem is a d-link dcm-202 and it is connected to a d-link di-524 router which is connected to my main pc. anyway im not able to use my internet and here's why. there are 5 lights on my modem: power, cable, status, ethernet and usb. the usb is never on cause i don't use the usb. the power light is always stable but almost all of the time the cable light is blinking on and off. the status light is NEVER on which means i can't use my internet. the ethernet light is stable. on my desktop screen there is an internet icon on the lower-right hand corner in the task bar. the bubble that pops up on the icon says, "local-area connection now connected at 100.00mbps" but when i click on my internet browser the page never comes up and says "www.whatever.com can't be found" cause my stinkin "status" light on my modem is never on. i've called charter and they don't know what they're talking about. anyone have any idea to fix my problem? thanks

Ok, I also have charter. First off windows will say you have a network connection if you have a cable plugged into your NIC card, and it will show 100Mbps. Your bandwidth given to you by charter is no more than 3 Mbps, but thats beside the point. What exactly did you tell Charter, and what are all five lights? Plaese let me know. O and they aren't experiencing any outages, as charter is common for.

i only have 2 computers: my main computer which is connected to the modem and router by an ethernet and a sony vaoi labtop which has a wireless pc card. the modem has the following lights: power, cable, status, ethernet and usb. the power is always on, the cable light is sometimes on if not it's blinking on and off, the status light is never on, and the ethernet light is always on. all i need is for the "status" light to come on.

Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on? Or doing a hard reset (holding down the reset switch for 30 seconds or so), this may work, if not just check to make sure all your cables are connected.

I know you probably already tried that, but you might have forgotten something.

you say the 'cable' light is blinking and/or off.... you may want to check with the cable co because this can mean the signal reaching your modem is too weak or intermittently not present... this can be resolved by a signal boost from the company or maybe a signal boost you can buy from radioshack. But get them to at least come out and measure the signal coming out of the outlet you are using for the modem.
