Buying laptop...

Hey, by June 5th I'll have a little over 500 dollars, and i am looking for a laptop for summer (i'm rarely home, but i can't leave my computer. ever.)
i also have the desktop in the sig, which i think as a trade would account for about $300 maybe?

i'd prefer something with no os, pricewise, and not vista by anymeans. sorry...

-screen size 14 or higher

-cpu c2d preferred, but turion is ok

-one gig ram would suffice, two would be great

-160gb hdd would be awesome, but i'm not too picky with it, i can make external or something...

other than that i'm good

You can't really get a laptop without an OS (i don't think) and if it does come with an OS it would be Vista..... and not sure on how much it would be..... i'll do some research!

If i do find one... and does have XP would that be ok?

Prob is that it has vista. Have you considered a 15'' Powerbook G4 off ebay with:
Power PC 1.00GHz >
512mb or 1GB - Doesnt matter tiger/leopard runs very well with 512mb
80GB HD
Super/combo Drive
Tiger/Leopard

so is this one thats sports a C2D but thats also vista http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101148 but being honest Vista on them laptops would do pretty well like I had an old Vaio that had:

Pentium M 740 1.73GHz
1GB 667MHz
100GB 4200RPM
DVD-R Rom
Windows XP Home and upgraded it to Vista Ultimate and it did pretty well plus it got 1.0 so they are well capable of vista

JlCollins005, a have experience with laptops, i even own a acer. All i can say about them is that they realy suck(more peole on the forum share this idea). As for HP, i woud say they are great.

Ya cant really say they are the best having not tested/used every laptop/brand available. Either way opinions are your own.

Most laptops nowa days are/have to be built to a standard anyway..

In my opinion, Lenovo,Hp/compaq, MSI, toshiba,dell,acer,asus. etc are all good known laptop manufactures. I have used a laptop from all of these vendors at least once if not a few times and never really had any problems with them, certainly nothing to hate a company for...

what ur opinion ive never once had a problem with toshiba, and as far as fixing them, never once had to fix a toshiba either, ive worked on more dell and hp's than ne thing. acers i think have a couple decent ones, same with gateway, compaq.. and dell i just plain hate dell

im pretty sure a majority of the pc's you use are manufactured by acer, and rebranded, and the acer i have used before worked wonderfully without a hitch
