Buying HDD (750gb or higher)

Well, my 320gb seems to be full , as is my 250gb, and i need a new harddrive. i'm not too trusting of the seagate 7200.11 3xx series (340, etc) because of the clicking alot of people are getting, and the drive i have no is clickier than hell. if you have a 750 or 1000gb WD drive i'd love it! or if you have a Seagate that you know doesn't click i'd take that too!

...and if i get it and it clicks, i'll mess up your mothers face with a pipe iron.

well alot of seagates have had a bad rep, the two i've recently bought were scratchy and make way too much noise, but i haven't had a firmware issue yet. i really was aiming for a $80-90 1TB drive, like a WD Caviar Green, but, if it's 750 or so i'd still get by, i was kind of interested in your 500gb, but it's only a 180gb increase, and i'll have to buy another one within a month or two again.

I'm looking to pick up a few more for my server myself, but have other priorities that need to come first.

Here's a 1TB though:

Hitachi 1tb 7200rpm $87.99 Free shipping

There was just a good deal on the WD Black 1TB for 109$, which has the 5 year warranty afaik, but that just ended. Either way if 80-90$ is your range, you can get a new drive with full warranty if you look around instead of a used one.

I've had issues with Hitachi, which is why i opted for WD, or Seagate, my last hitachi crapped out in 2 months, and the one before that had read/write errors after a few months - they're cheap for a reason :) but thanks man!

No problem. Just seemed like there wasn't a lot of action going on in the thread so I'd try and help you find something new if no one had anything they could give up. There were a few WD and Seagate 1Tb deals going on in the past couple weeks, but by the time I got to this thread it was too late.

are you really only using one drive at a time? why?

personally i'm running a 320gb drive and two 500gb WD black's all at the same time. i'd suggest just running them all at the same time, the extra space is worth it.

Well i wouldn't use the drive i have now for music/video/etc, it's a noisy drive, remember the old ticking in like 1990's drives? it's like that - so encode/decode/recode/play/move/whatever i get noise, which is why i require it to be a large drive, it has to put my 320gb on there, and then i want room for more crap.
