my laptop's built in speakers stopped playing sound other than a beep (which it only does on aim and windows error pop ups) i put in the driver recovery DVD but it didn't help and i downloaded an audio mixer (the computer used to have one on it but it uninstalled or somthing.) It is very annoying please help!!!

Try this to begin with. Go to the volume controller (the one with 7 different volume bars next to each other) and make sure all of them are turned up. Sometimes a certain kind of sound can be muted/turned down while others are not.

Well, ok, but it is possible that the downloaded one doesn't control the Master volumes(for example Windows Media player volume doesn't control anything else).

You can't find it you say? Try this: Control pannel- Sounds and Audio Devices- Audio- Under sound playback click volume. That should get you to the master volume.

by the way, the beep from the comp on error messages comes from a small speaker inside the computer usually, not the sound speakers. so actually ur getting no sound at all from ur speakers at the moment.

still won't work under control panel and audio devices, then audio, it made it that light transparent grey that means that there is nothing to click on it also says no playback devices.

i'm pretty sure that they installed correctly, besides the disk that comes with the computer should have the correct stuff. I think the problem might be audio codecs but i have no clue what that means.
