Hi. I have started to build my onw computer. This is my first build so I wont go too far with it.

mobo: Intel 945GTP/945PLM Socket 775 motherboard (purchased on 20th)

case: Generic ATX case (already owned)

CPU: I was think about a Pentium Dual Core 2.5ghz (wolfdale) (havent got)

hdd: any sata hdd above 80gb (havent got)

ram: 2x1gb Kingston DDR2 non ecc (havent got)

PSU: I have a 300 watt PSU with 22.5 amps on 12v rail

Graphics: Either a geforce 9600GT or radeon hd 4650. Whats better?

Other: I have DVD burners, speakers, keyboards, mouse, monitor and O/S

I would appreciate any advice.

I have to agree with you. I am limited to around $500 give or take $100.
At the moment i'm just glad to be away from Intel integrated graphics.

The 4650 is better for the money, it's also faster. But I picked the 4830, because it has about a 25% speed increase because of it being 256 bit insted of 128, It's ten dollars more but yeah it's worth it! trust me I picked that harddrive because it has 16 mb of cache insted of 8 that will give alot of a speed increase probably around 20% I picked that motherbored because it had four ram slots, and it Looked good for the money, it's cheap and packed with features, plus I love msi. Not to argue with awildgoose, but you dont need a 400 wat or more psu, 300 will be fine, There are people out there running 2 8800's with a 400 wat, and a duel 4850 setup only needs about 450 watts, so don't waste your money if you already have a 300 wat it will be fine for your needs.

I thought that 300 watts would be fine and it looks like i'm right. I also chose the dual core over pentium d, because pentium d apparently uses around 150 watts just on its own.
Also, I should have put this in before, I'm in Australia. so thanks for the links but i dont think newegg ships to aus. It's a let down though, things are much cheaper on newegg than ebay. People on ebay still flog old FX 5600 cards for around $80 Aus. on ebay.
I will look around for some 256-bit cards on ebay.
thanks everyone for the advice.

one more quick thing before i go for the night, I will not be using windows vista.
But, I want to use DirectX10 or 10.1 depending on which card i get. Is there a way to get DX10 in XP?
