Ok so this will be my very first attempt to build a gaming computer... I already have a Compaq computer box tower that i will be using for the frame of the pc..
I have all the parts that come with the original plus an additional NVidia graphics card.(256MB) I am wondering if most mother boards are universal? Or how would i get a motherboard for my computer box tower that i know would fit? Also Should i use this computer box tower or get a new one?

Thanks, deadeyealex

How much are you looking to spend?
And you may wanted to consider a diffrent case a motherboard you buy today may not fit that case.

Uhhm I am looking to order parts and have her done in around 2 weeks to a month... but i understand there are parts out there for $400 but around $500-$600? Lets talk let the total add up and i'll get an idea :)

Might be really hard to convert a older computer to a gaming computer expecially for games of today. ex:cod mw2 i just recently spent 1500$ on a gaming computer, and motherboards are normally not interchangable but you gotta check ram type, and cpu socket

Upgrading an older computer just is NOT worth it. You will find yourself replacing parts just because you have to.

Example:

Want a bigger hdd = Going sata which might mean buying an ide to sata adapter plus the power adapter etc....

Usually its cheaper to build a computer versus upgrading an old one

Catch my drift?

Yep...definitely get a new one. Most store-bought desktops are either micro-atx, which limits your choices on motherboards, or BTX, which REALLY limits your choices on almost everything. I think Compaq stayed with mATX, but I could be wrong.
