Hello,

I have seen someone that builds there own high performace laptops and they are clearly a lot of companys that arent huge companys building them. Can you build laptops ? can it be done if so were do you get the hardware from ? it would be easy to buy ram and graphics cards and processors but were do you get the motherboards from ?

If anyone could help it would be great :D this is a interesting subject !

Thanks

I don't know if that's possible, you'd have to find a laptop "case" somewhere, and motherboard as you said yourself. Not sure if it can be done, never heard of it.

There's nothing truly "build you own" in the world of notebooks. The best you can hope for is to go to a custom manufacturer and specify what you want in it.

Well parts like motherboards aren't widely available, due to size of the chassis. Not all motherboards will fit in every chassis. Many want their overall system to be portable, yet functional for all their needs. You'll have to see what your needs are before starting a build. Most (if not all) are barebones. You can get a motherboard, chasis and screen assembled to start with, which is the barebone (whitebook). After that you can add your optical, HD, RAM, WLAN, and some will offer replaceable video, too. Some components are hard to get to and others are self explanatory.

Hello,

Ok so i could buy a asus barebone and do the processor hard drive opticals and RAM and HDD. If you could do graphics aswell you would be there virtually. But what i want to do is make my own case. Now this would be easy to do becuase i could just copy the asus barebone case couldnt i ? and form it using acrylic ? but would be a waste of money buying the barebone then ? is there not anyone that sells laptop motherboards ! ? surely somone must. Can anyone help :D !?

Cheers

Well these mobile motherboards are usually made for the chassis and is most likely made/designed at the same time. As for upgradeable video cards, those chassis are usually bigger than average. And of course, the fatter the case, the better the temps. With a thinner chassis, some would complain of the heat at multiple areas. As for making it all yourself, I think it would be more affordable to get it all done from the very beginning as a barebone. Less hassle and you'll know it'll work fine together (power, motherboard, screen, build).
