I think i know what i am doing but i just wanna check with you guys if this is compatible.

Have i forgotten anything? If you notice i am missing anything or that there is something wrong with my list could you please let me know..

Thanks!

looks good apart from no GPU or OS,
if you budget will let you, get the Q6600 CPU, its a few bux more but has double the L2 cache

Actually if you are dead set on a quad-core why not go after the new Phenom II x4 quads?

They are just as good and are 45nm if you overclock them correctly they can easily match the Q9550 in performance.

They are also MUCH cheaper allowing you to build a over-all better PC. Plus you can buy either a DDR2 or DDR3 motherboard with it.

Do some google searches and read up on them a bit and see if that would be a better path for you to go.

About how much is all that going to cost you? (Just roughly)

What do you intend to do with the pc? Hardcore gaming?...internet and usual?

Whats your max budget?

Thanks for all of your help so far guys!
All up that will cost me about $620 - www.megabuy.com.au
I will consider upgrading to the better cpu thanks for the info.
However seems that it is my first time building a computer i decided i should maybe go with something a bit cheaper.
i was thinking of a building an AMD and these are the parts i looked at
Processor
AMD ATHLON X2 Dual Core 7850 Black Edition CPU (Phenom Core), 2.8GHz (95W), 3MB Cache, Sockets AM2+ AM2
Motherboard
ASUS ExpGATE, AM2+, nF7050, 2000MT, DDR2, PCIEx16, SATA2, RAID, mATX, VGA
RAM
CORSAIR VS2GB667D2 2GB Value Select PC-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 RAM, 256MBx64non-ECC, 240-pin DIMM, Unbuffered
HDD
SEAGATE CUDA 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 8MB
Case
ASUS TA-851 Black Mid Tower Case, 10x Drive Bays, Fan, USB 2.0, Audio, 400W PSU, ATX microATX.
Optical Drive
LITEON RETAIL BLACK 16XDVD 48XCDROM ALL MEDIA IDE NO SOFTWARE
Video Card
ASUS RADEON 4350, 512MB, DDR2, 600Mhz, PCIE2.0, DVI, HDCP, HDMI

That will cost me around $450 - $470 (without OS)

For the Operating system i was thinking of getting Microsoft XP because i have heard a lot of bad things about Vista, but if you think differently please let me know. And where would be a good place to buy me and OS?

And if you have any other suggestions about what i should get please let me know!

Thank you all so much for your help!

P.S I was thinking of making me a gaming one a little bit further down the track, except i just wanna make sure i have a bit of experience before i do that... don't wanna waste some money now.. :P

firstly, where are you from so we can more easily source parts.

second, what is your budget.

third, what will the system be used for

finally is there anything you specifically want from your system,, such as dual/quad core CPU, 4GB RAM, a certain video card whatever.
your PSU probably won't be able to power that because it is with the case and will be cheap asian crap, you are better off buying a seperate one, but until we can finalise your systtem, can't really recomend one

Aastii thanks for your input! :)

First of all i am from australia. i have found a website that looks pretty decent. - www.megabuy.com.au

My budget would be around $450 because this is the first computer i am building so i don't want it to be too expensive incase i stuff it up.

I want the computer to be a fairly fast computer, just a general computer for everyday stuff, probably some games aswell. But i think i will probably sell it so that i can build a better one. (i don't want to start off building my dream computer because i don't wanna mess it up.)

I would like my computer to have a dual core processor, 2Gb RAM, i don't reallly care all that much about the Video card i just want a half decent one taht is pretty cheap. I have already looked at some parts (you can see in my earlier posts) - but i just wanna make sure that they are compatible. to me they look compatible, but because i lack experience i am worried that i missed something.

Any suggestions on a better value part will be appreciated.:P

Cheers!

Everything will work but if you have the cash and want better you should do it vs buying a lesser version to "practice"

The only thing hard about PC is getting the cable management managed.

Only thing you should know is
1. Keep 1 hand on your PC case at all times to prevent static build up.
2. Don't use a magnetic screwdriver no matter how weak it is.
3. Double check ALL connections then check it again
4. Keep a fan on you...I tend to sweat when I take my PC apart to clean and water is not a good thing.
5. If your motherboard has 8 holes for screws and you have 12 standoffs (Goes under the holes so you can screw it in)...only use 8....putting more could short the board.

looks good apart from no GPU or OS,

Yeah but an os in a built comp is a no brainer it will be a windows machine.
Yeah this looks good you may benefit more by going with crucial RAM than generic crucial is proven better than all others

Thanks so much for all of your help!!
Especiallly those tips Twist86!
I will take a look at some crucial RAM and see what i can find.

Just one more question, will wearing a rubber glove have any benefit (regarding static build up)

thanks a ton!

Just discharge yourself by touching the metal of your case few a second or two, and dont be walking around while building it and you'll be fine, no need for gloves...

Thanks so much!
I'll let you guys know how i go when i build it! (might be a while away i still gotta get some more money.)

Thanks MYIONPC!

just looked at the motherboard i am getting "ASUS ExpGATE, AM2+, nF7050, 2000MT, DDR2, PCIEx16, SATA2, RAID, mATX, VGA" and i discovered it can only support 1-2mb cache, and the processor i selected is 3mb cache so looks like i am going to hvae to downgrade my cpu. (can't be bothered looking for a new motherboard and paying more.)

so i decided i should go with this cpu, please let me know what you think!:
AMD ATHLON X2 Dual Core 5000+ CPU, 2.6GHz (65W), 1MB Cache, Socket AM2

And MYIONPC how do i overclock?

cheers

I read up on the crucial RAM and it looks like a very good brand. let me know what you think!

cheers

You would be better off with a 7750kuma,or 7850 kuma, based off newer technology than the 5000+. I would try to get something along the lines of an amd based motherboard such as a 740 or 760chipset vs a nforce 7050. The crucial memory is good, but if you can get patriot, g.skill, kingston, or such for the same price i would go with that. ALso i would try to go for something such as a 7200.12 or western digital caviar for the hard drive;) The GPU i would get something slightly better such as a 4550 if its within your price range. I sure hope you arent going to be using the psu that comes with the case, try to get something like an OCZ, Antec, FSP, Corsair, Pc Power & Cooling, Seasonic, Xclio, BFG, or Thermaltake power supply.

Thanks i will take a look at those things now

i really just want this computer to be kinda cheap so i won't get things that are all that much more expensive

cheers!

Yeah, the psu is the place never to skimp though, it fails and half your rig can be gone:eek:

Wow i didn't know that, thanks for telling me, don't want my system to stuff up on me!

Do you think that a
ANTEC 350W Antec Basiq Power Supply, ATX12V version 2.01 compliant, Dual +12V Ouputs, 80mm fan, SATA connectors, Power Factor Correction
will be good enough for my system?

thanks!

Where you buying from? The antec is alright but prolly a little underpowered... Id say at least a 380W earthwatts or a 400W ocz/xclio/corsair
