buffalo ministation not working

hello all i have a buffalo ministation 320gb it worked fine for a while but then i plugged it in one day and the light didnt come on so i then opened it up and took the hdd out and just plugged in the usb to sata bit and the light cam on fine but then as soon as i put the hard drive back in it went off again any help to get this working again would be apreciated.
 
Is it regular hard drive to where you can attach it to your computer via a sata power and data cable? If so, try that and see your system detects the drive. The case may just be defective.
