Budget setup

I've never messed around with speakers before. Always been using on-board sound card + whatever 2.1 Microlab speakers I have.

I would like to give 5.1 a try but I'm wondering if having a better sound card is better?

I'm on budget and I don't need anything super high quality, as long as it's sufficient for gaming then I'm cool with it.

So any suggestion for a decent sound card for music/gaming? or is the on-board one sufficient?

Also, any decent 5.1 speakers you guys could suggest?

Thanks for any help!

What is your budget? I recommend the logitech X-540's I got mine for 60 bucks and I couldn't be happier. For the sound card, I got mine for free but I see no difference between my Onboard sound

Indeed it does all you need to do is plug the wires in the same colored hole and you're good to go

Oh.. Question. Do you plan on hooking these speakers up?

Hooking those up? as in putting them somewhere mid-air?
Not really, they will be be placed on my desk, I plan on putting them in this way, not sure if it's correct since I'm a newbie.

Yeah ahaha sorry if that didn't really make sense but yes in mid-air.

Yeah that makes sense. just to warn you though, the cords on this unit are pretty short so if you need to make them longer, just go to radioshack
( supposing you live in the US) (or any store like radioshack) and buy a couple feet of Phono wires and a couple of female/female phono couplers and you should be good to go.
