Budget HD camcorder?

Is there any good HD camcorder that is under 1000$ even better under 700$? Good as in an HD camcorder you'd actually recommend. I have an old camcorder which is good but I really want to go HD now for creative reasons and just to see how different it looks.

Yay for Aiptek, boo for that model :P I had a similar version and it was very good, but the microphone is horrible on those. Step up a bit to the GVS. It actually has a usable stabilizer (a first in a budget camera :P) 5x zoom and auto focus. (that other one should have auto focus, but many cheap HD camcorders don't)

I have both a black and silver GVS. They are essentially identical except the black does have stereo mics. The gray has a pair of mics but records as "joint stereo".

the aiptek one looks pretty decent. compared to my flip mino that thing is way better well from the samples I've seen anyway. What about the bigger camera's not the professional but mid-line ones. I've tested a few out they all look pretty decent. Most of the ones I want are in the 1000 but that's almost professional camcorder price but they were only mid-line. This was at best buy.

There is no comparison between the GVS and the Mino. Unless I'm greatly mistaking, the flip lacks auto-focus and an optical zoom. Some of the GVS's also have stereo mics.

Probably the biggest disadvantage to the GVS compared to some more costly cameras is it's low-light performance. It's fairly crummy, even among some of the budget cameras.
