Bsod

I need some help guys, lately I've been getting this BSOD out of nowhere, my computer has been behaving funny, and it crashes a lot in games. Here is the BSOD.

Are you by any chance running four sticks of memory? (4x2GB?) A lot of boards get issues when fill the memory slots, see if you get the same issues running 2x2GB. i know i had the same issues running 4x1GB, and 2x2GB solved the issues.

Well, I'm running 4x2gb so there's no real solution.(I mean I could buy 2x4gb, but I don't want to waste my money). No, I'm not trying to overclock anything. I thought it was my RAM aswel when I first saw the screen because of how it said MEMORY MANAGER.

stop

It appears to be a memory fault of some type. You didn't provide us with much information about your system, it would have been helpful. Knowing OS, PC type, RAM amount, any other problems or changes to your computer (software or hardware), and when the problem began... (Just because you have computer specs in your sig doesn't tell me that it is the machine we are dealing with. I don't assume.)

* It seems to be a memory problem. The easiest and cheapest fix would be to start with re-seating your RAM. Turn off the computer, unplug it, press the power button for several seconds to dissipate any "held charge", touch bare metal section of computer case to dissipate static charge (do this regularly while working on computer).

Once the computer is open, pull the RAM sticks out, check for damage/debris/anything unusual on the RAM mating surfaces and any other obvious damage, if all is ok then put the RAM back in securely. Check to see if problem continues.

* If problem continues: try Memtest to check for faulty RAM (yes its free). Download it here: http://www.memtest86.com/ Full instructional and product description is available on the Memtest86 site. Check to see if problem continues.

* If problem continues: If you have more RAM for this computer try installing it and see if the problem continues.

Post back with the results.

so?

So have you had any luck fixing the problem? I'd like to know if the problem is resolved, partly for myself and others who have read this thread.

I'm not totally sure, I mean when i re-seated the ram I had a few boot up problems, and then I fixed that, and it seems fine now, but I just didn't want to post it was fixed it wasn't. As of now I'll say it is fixed.

problems

What kind of bootup problems? And If it were me I would go ahead and run the memory check, just to be on the safe side.

But if you're the gutsy type and choose to wait, its up to you. Note, I would not just go buy new memory before running the test program. It might not be your memory, or it could be only one of the sticks went bad. And depending on how they are defective/damaged you may be able to get the manufacturer to send you new RAM under warranty.

There are a lot of variables to consider with an issue like this. Take your time, no need to rush through a problem like this. You may make mistakes or miss seeing something crucial to diagnosis if you rush.

I have this feature on my MOBO called MemOk, and I pressed that and it started acting weird. I tried to mount Memtest 86 on a virtual cd, but it wouldn't work...

me...

You need to use a physical CD, not a virtual disk. And dont use a DVD, it has to be a CD. Use CD burning software to burn Memtest to the CD as an image, dont just drop the file to the CD. Just copying the program to the CD in a non-image save wont create a bootable disk.

How did MemOk on your motherboard "Act Weird"?

I can't remember now, and I'm just going to leave the situation alone as everything seems to be fine. If the ram blows up, I have a 3 year warranty :)

now

If I were you...

I'd call them right away and tell them there is a problem. If you leave the problem alone they may not cover it though the warranty. I say that because they may be able to claim negligence on your part for not dealing with it when it began. They may even have a hardware specific program to run as a diagnostic on the RAM (one that you and I are not aware of).

But hey, its up to you.

omg
i can't believe it. I have the EXACT same problem with the same config.
I saw somewhere that one has to check the voltages, so i did. I saw my ram setting at 1.5 while it is rated at 1.65. But kept crashing and after a while not even able to do a startup (because 'overclocking' failed). I then loaded on default setting. And now I am listening 'gossip' and writing this message. But I am pretty sure that it's gonna crash again.

I have looked at a number of options. Blue screens, freezes, the works... and now more and more often.

I am also running 8gb of ocz (10666 cl7 1333mhz). I took out 4gb, ran memtest and so on... but to no avail. Getting kinda desperate here.

Can someone help?

thanks

i'd start with memtest, and if it fails then check all your clock settings/timings/voltages in bios and make sure they match what the ram is rated for. your bsod error is definitely a memory error, as gamblingman has already said

if memtest passes it, check your os. make sure windows sees all the ram, check that your virtual memory isnt interfering in some way, and if all else fails reinstall windows

i definitely wish more people could get use of the diagnostic utility i use at work, its call pc check, its made by eurosoft, and it kicks ass. has some amazing hardware tests that sometimes run for a couple days. you just boot to it, pick the parts you want to test... and wait for it to tell you what failed. only problem is the damn software runs 400 bucks. ridiculous.

It's the memory controller that has an issue. it does not like all the memory slots being filled. therefore, running less memory (take 2 sticks out. do you really need 8gb of ram?) or selling your 4x2GB and buy 2x4GB. Also, try raising the memory voltage but i found this to be a temporary fix, it just made the issues less frequent. but it did head up my memory a lot! (was too hot to touch!)

As i said before, i had the EXACT same issue with 4x1GB. Bluescreens, POST and BIOS issues (corrupted text, no video, no post, freezing when going into bios) and freezes. It did run perfectly when i took one stick out tough. but i wanted to run 4gb. The solution was going from 4x1GB to 2x2GB.

It's the only way to fix it, short of buying a new motherboard.
