Hello,

Laptop is having BSODs at random times after startup lately. Here is the code I get:

0x000000c5 (0x033f08c4, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x82f2f8b3)

After restarting (Vista), I get this:

System version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
Regional Settings ID (translated from french, i'm not sure): 1036
BCCODE: c5
BCP1: 033F08C4
BCP2: 00000002
BCP3: 00000001
BCP4: 82F2F8B3
OS Version: 6_0_6002
SP: 2_0
Product: 768-1

I also get this error: Error reading TrayIcon1 -> Visible: cannot create system Shell Notification Icon.

I've uninstalled MagicDisc as people seem to have problems similar to this with it.

Any idea?

Thanks :)

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Hey John,

I downloaded the file and ran the .exe but nothing shows up there...

Thanks for your reply!

EDIT: I ran ccleaner, that might be the problem...

Yes, ccleaner is the problem. It deleted everything in the minidump folder. Run bluescreenview immediately after it happens next time and post the log.

Everything works fine now, apparently it was MagicDisc having a bug with the tray icon or something.

Thanks for your answer John!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry about that. Can you zip up the minidump and attach it to your next reply? I've been having problems with my debugger program. Hopefully it will work.

No problem John, will do that ASAP next week as this is on my GF's laptop :).

OK, got some information for you.

The bluescreen on 9/8/12 was due to pool corruption of wmpnetwk.exe.
The bluescreen on 9/20/12 was due to pool corruption of wmiprvse.exe.

wmpnetwk.exe is from windows media player
wmiprvse.exe is Windows Management Instrumentation

You may have memory issues. Check your memory with Memtest86. Also, check to make sure you have no malware on your system, I'm sure you can do that on your own.

Also, are all windows updates installed?

Do I have to burn a copy of memtest on a CD and boot on it?

I've already ran scans and nothing came up and yes updates are all installed. If this is a memory issue, what would be the solution?

Usually, it's new RAM.

0xC5 can be a driver issue but it's coming from windows files not a 3rd party driver it's probably RAM related. Hence John asking yo uto run a memtest. There is a USB versions of it if you don't want to burn it to a disc. http://www.memtest.org/#downiso it has a *NEW* tag beside it.

Yes you do need to burn the ISO to a disc and boot off the disc you created.

You could try reseating the RAM I guess, but really the only solution is to replace your RAM if it does turn out to be the issue.

Ok I ran the Memtest on a bootable CD for 6 hour (2 pass) and nothing came up, no errors.

If they continue, I would either do a restore back to before the first bluescreen or try reinstalling windows. Another though.... Did you run memtest with all memory inserted or did you run it on the sticks one at a time? Sometimes you get better results if you run them one at a time.

I have absolutely no idea on how to run it on sticks one at a time. I just booted from the CD and let it do it's work...

How many sticks of ram do you have in the system? Sometimes you have to run memtest on them one at a time. Remove all but one stick and run memtest for a while and see what happens. Then shut system down, remove that stick and put in the next one and run memtest again and then so on until all memory sticks are tested one by one.

This is from Crucial.com:

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Currently Installed Memory: 4GB
Total Memory Slots: 2
Available Memory Slots: 0

I've never taken apart (don't know if that's the right verb...) a laptop, and since this isn't on mine, are you sure it is necessary to take off a stick and redo the test?
