Laptop:
Gateway Model # MT6821

2-3 months ago a friend of mine basically pushed too hard on the power button and it broke....I cant get the laptop to turn on now....

I brought it to a local comp. repair shop and he said that the power button was attached to the mobo and it wouldnt be worth fixing it...

Recently I have been getting more hands on with my computers and hve a few builds planned....

I figured that now that I know about newegg/tiger direct ect. that I could probably get the part cheap and fix this thing....

I have neevr taken apart a laptop and am somewhat nervous....

What would you do? I can take some pics and post if that would help...

Neither Newegg/Tiger Direct would have the part you need to replace. My guess is the button circuitry actually broke, in which case you'd have to go to an electronics store (Radio Shack) and find some tiny little button that matches your broken one. It'd be something like this...

That or some how right up wires so you could short out what needs to be shorted.

Anyone know where the part can be bought???? There are no replacement parts? I havent opened the laptop yet, but I assume he did when he diagnosed it.....What part is the power button attached to?
