Blue Screen

Four or five times already, out of the blue, all of a sudden , a blue screen appears with a lot of writing and I need to restart my Computer again. What causes this and what does this mean ? Is the computer getting ready to break down ? Can it be fixed or does it need to be replaced ? It is only 7 years old but is used quite a lot by me .

Hi Peter.

What is the Operating System that you are running? What brand of computer is it? I am trying to get an idea of your specifications.

It would never hurt to open malwarebytes and run a full scan to rule out malware. If you can get a picture of the blue screen that would be helpful.

Thanks

Please do the following and post the log.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

I was able to do all this up till "Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, I don't know where that is located

Right click on the bsod.txt file and click on open. It should either automatically open with notepad or should get a menu with what program to open it with.

Update, So because of my limited computer skills I called my ISP. I pay $10 a month for tech support by remote control . I was surprised that the girl did not know what a blue screen was. She thought that it is the screen that appears when you start up your computer. She did not seem interested in retrieving the screen to read what it says. Instead she just ran a number of anti virus and malware programs on my computer to check for any infections in the computer. So we will see what happens now with regards to this problem. Thank-you for your help and I wanted to let you know what the status of this thread is.

If you want I can remote into your system and get the results from bluescreenview. I just need you to install a program called teamviewer and I would need your id number and password. Would this be something you want to do?

Thanks but I don't think it is necessary at this time. Let's wait and see what happens but if the need arises I would certainly like to take you up on your offer in the future.

I spoke too soon, lol. Right after I wrote this another blue screen appeared again . I contacted the tech assistant at my ISP to look at the blue screen . This time they looked at it. This is what they determined. Issue is caused by physical faults. File is linked to Microsoft service packs. Original file has been corrupted.

They then did a System Restore to last update. Told me that if I get further blue screens that I may need to take the computer into a PC technician to get the hardware diagnosed and repaired .

What are your thoughts on this ?

Yeah sounds like an excuse. Internet Providers don't know anything about pc troubleshooting. Just let me know if you want me to remote in.

I am still plagued by blue screens, so it looks like I will be needing you to remote in. I downloaded Teamviewer and have a ID and Password
