Black screen ???

Thanks in advance for any help. I have an Acer aspire M1641 desktop. When I hit the on button it lites up, fans run, dvd player operates, everything seems normal. But no sound or display. The display is good, I tested it on my other unit. I bought a new harddrive and installed it. Nothing.....?????
 
Do you have onboard video or are you using a dedicated video card? Does the card need power connectors from the power supply? If you have a dedicated card, what model of card do you have?
 
Can get a cheap pci express video card and install it to see if maybe just the onboard video is dead? Other than that, you'll have to take it in to get diagnosed.
 
Possibly, but not very likely. Usually if there is a problem with the memory, the system will beep at you.
 
Right again John. When I got the unit back I tried it to no avail. So here goes my first attempt at building a computer. Guess I will use this case and as many acc I can from here.
