Black friday is the day after thanksgiving, as you might already know. From thanksgiving on, that is when people start their 'journey' or 'rampage' for shopping for Christmas presents and what not. So as you see, stores are more profitable from Thanksgiving to Christmas. In simple terms, when companies evaluate their profits, they are substantially higher around the Thanksgiving - Christmas, and when their doing great financially, we say they're in the "black". When a company isn't doing good financially, we say they're in the "Red" (The total amount of $ they make is indicated in Red or Black, black meaning good and red opposite). So someone just decided that they were going to have massive sales to increase profits on the day after thanksgiving, putting them in the "Black". Make sense?

its the day after thanksgiving, HUGE SALES at almost all stores. At the best buy near my house people were camping out there at 9AM thanksgiving day and the store didnt even open till 5am the next day. people get crazy on this day. I saw two grown men start fighting each other to save about $100 on an lcd tv this morning. crazy

ahh
cheers buddy
damnit i wish we had thanksgiving.
1) food
2) cheapness

cheers for your help!

No problem!

While the sales are spectacular, the fighting is as well.. .People have killed, and literally, killed for some of these sales.. But that's America lol

^^ Yeah someone got trampled to death last year at walmart. The guy that got trampled was 240lbs. LOL

Besides after finding the deal ya want they are standing in line at the check out counter and waiting for hours. thats not me..

sounds like everyone is having fun except me!

although we do have boxing day sales, not sure if they are at the same scale though.... don't think anyone has actually killed another person during one of these boxing day sales... well not on purpose at least.

oh yeah... well where i live its already Monday! so there, take that! although we don't have any cyber Monday crap :(

i wish everything was the same as on the Grinch, where things were 99% off and stuff lol

American public believes a day after thanks giving is the best time to shop, because of lowest prices and discounts. I happen to disagree more and more with that. Simply because in my experience you get better prices in the middle of summer rather than closer to hollydays.

For example, I got T6500 Core 2 laptop middle of summer for $499. Today to get same laptop with same specs, it would run me for $650. Prior to black friday laptops with same specs ran for $799. So all they did was raise prices and then issue discounts.

Same with TVs. I wanted a TV, prices went up from mid summer, then they issued a discount during hollyday season, but even with this discount prices are higher than what they were in the summer.

So, from my experience black friday is nothing but a marketing scheme.
