Bigger coverage area?

Ok here's my problem. We have a wireless internet connection, but we also have a big house. the router is in the front of the house, and my room is in the back. in my room, the network is not detected by my laptop, but if i go into my sisters room right next to mine, it works just fine. seems weird to me, but anyway, is there some kind of device i can make or buy that would expand the area covered by the network? i'm especially interested in something i could make myself, sort of like the tin can antenna thing. any help is appriciated. thanks.

Well, if you have access to copper piping, you can take a wire and hook it up to one of the antenna jacks on your router, and then wrap it around the coppy pipe.

Or you can buy an accesspoint.

Thats what I guessed. well I have one made by linksys, but it isn't compatable with the router. is there an expander out there that will work with any router?

Thats what I would do. Does your router have a switch in it too? If so I would definatly buy an AP. Or think about moving your router to a more central location. You could also get some high gain antennas 24dbi should work lol.
