Best way to learn about computing

Hi Everyone,

As the title suggests, I'm looking to learn about computing, starting from the very basics as I have no prior experience in computer science.

Currently, I'm recovering from an illness and want to do something more productive with my time. I've always wanted to learn more about computing but never got round to it. My preferred learning style is to read about the theory and then put it into practice. So I'm looking for advice on the best way I can go about this.

Does anyone know of any online courses (free or otherwise), that would be suitable? Or is there any decent books out there which would be able to teach me the absolute fundamentals with an emphasis on it's practical applications? Clearly I not looking for anything that's too difficult at this stage.

I found a free course on https://www.coursera.org/course/cs101. Does this look any good.

Thanks in advance for any input :)

That looks about as good as you'll get for an intro course. I'd say go for it, as it sounds pretty thorough :good:
