Best Sound Card my system can handle

What is the best sound card my system can handle, specs below. It is a custom built from like 8 years ago. Runs pretty good for how obsolete it is. I want the sound card for music and also i want to be able to hook a subwoofer up to it.

Well I mean if you have a open PCI slot to put it in you can use any sound card, regardless of how good it is. If you get a upper end sound card you can always move it to the next computer if you upgrade your system.
