Basic Networking????

I'm tyring to setup a network between me and my brothers computer so that we can share a file server.

I have a cable based internet connection and he has a DSL connection. I am going straight into my computer from the cable modem, without a router, whereas he has a router....

anyhow, is there anyway to bridge the 2 networks so that they can communicate, without inturupting out internet service????

If you don't have any free LAN connectors get a PCI LAN card, I suppose your computer has it free cuz you are using cable and you brother would need to get one cuz he is using DSL which is going through a LAN connector not a modem.
