Bad connection

I use cable modem. I am using a DLink DI-524 Wireless G router with a DLink Wireless G USB Adapter to hook up two computers to the same modem. My connection where the USB Adapter is being used is very weak. Web pages take a long time to load if they load at all. Games online will load and lag very badly if they work. How can i make my connection stronger?

how are you use one USB adapter 2 connect to machines, i assume you dont mean at the same time.

How far are you from the router???
Have you installed the USB adapter drivers (the lastest versions from online??)

Are you using a splitter cable to use both computers at once or are you doin it at separate times? if you're doing them both at the same time then i can imagine why it's so slow. it's giving half the output to one system and the other half to the other system. if you're doing it one at a time, then maybe it takes alot of time to reconfigure itself to a new system and that's why u have the problem... i think u should stick to one computer

also, try checking the usb ports in the back of the tower... make sure that they are giving a good connection... dust in the ports could disturb the signal as well and could lead to a slower connection, along with dust in the fans... so check that out

ok your modem has a USB connection and a cat 5 or ethernet or network cable connection ...or whatever you want to call it. You can not use both AND you can not use the USB since you are using the router because the USB ( if you have it connected ) goes from the modem to the pc. Since you have the router you need to disconnect the usb cable.

then turn all off, turn on the cable modem, wait 30 seconds or so , turn on the router, turn on your pc's

so this should be your set up ...coax cable from the wall to the modem, cat5 cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router. then either cat5 cable from the lan ports on the router to pc's / notebook...or wireless connections.
I left out power connections to devices, because that is assumed.

whoa whoa whoa wait a sec. you're trying to run your system on two different connection setups? that could definitely be a source of the problem. you only want to run one of the two.

I am going to clarify how i have this connected because i wasnt very clear. Here is how i have it connected... My roomate's computer is upstairs. I have an ethernet cable plugged into the WAN port on the router from the modem... then i have another ethernet cable plugged in from the first outlet on the router to the computer... I am using the USB Adapter to put my computer, which is downstairs, online. The computer upstairs works fine, internet runs great...My problem is wiht my computer downstairs, the signal is very very weak and hardly ever lets me on the internet.

well if it's in the basement... that could be part of the problem because it's harder to get a signal all the way down there.

and... if you want the downstairs computer to run faster... get another modem or something. don't try running a USB cord thru the house.
