Backward compatibilty

Let's say that system C is backward compatible with system B and system B is backward compatible with system A. Does this necessarily mean that system C is backward compatible with system A?

Comments anyone?

Depends of if it is hardware or software. Really the answer is no.

if you are saying this as in processor compatibility then no, it all depends on the subject.

Its rare to have that much compatibility.

Even AMD sockets.

AM3 processors will fit a AM3+/AM3/AM2+ and AM2 sockets.

But AM2/AM2+ processors will not fit a AM3/AM3+ sockets
