Just bought a Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium PCI-E and i noticed an almost constant high pitched hissing in the background, very faint but it's very annoying. what could be causing this, surely this shouldn't be happening should it? I also noticed it gets louder for a bit as i do anything that may add stress to the system, for example launching a program.

This is just RF interference from your computer components and is, unfortunately, rather common with computer audio sytems. This is typically caused by close circuit proximity, bad shielding, and low quality parts (Creative is not exempt from this).

Usually, this is a very low-level noise and you shouldn't notice it while playing other sounds. Check to make sure that you do not have your system volume turned down low and your speakers turned up high. This situation can make the hissing much more apparent.
