automatic startup repair

Hey guys,

so for the last week I have been trying to fix a friends computer. For some reason it always goes into the startup repair but never finds any error. I also tried starting in safe mode with no success. So I formatted the drive and reinstalled windows. It worked for a couple of minutes but then the computer just crashed and booted in startup repair again.

has anyone ever experienced this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix it? I am completely lost and don't know what to do...

It sounds like the hard drive is down the toilet Screz, do you get far enough to run a disk check on it or does it just crash and burn all the time?

Well the only time I ever get the chance to start the computer completely is after I reinstall windows. All the other times It just directly goes into the startup repair, doesn't matter what mode I use.

What error messages, if any, are you getting?

Is it possible to hook the hard drive to another machine to run a check disk on it?

nope the startup error does not find any error. And well I connected the hard drive to my computer and I also get the startup repair. I sadly can't connect my harddrive and his at the same time cause I don't have enough cables.

Shut down and remove the hard drive and then reboot.

You will obviously get a "Primary Disk not found" or "Operating system disk not found" error but does the post screen stay constant?

I will try that as soon I get home ... because I'm out right now

but I think it most likely will since I am sure that the problem lies within the harddrive or the software on the hardrive itself...

Ok so it looks like the disc is broken. I downloaded a Western Digital S.M.A.R.T and it failed the quick test after 6 seconds so I guess its not fixable.
