Audio Stuttering (IRQ Conflict?)

I installed an Audiophile 24/96 Soundcard, and will occassionally hear stuttering in audio playback. That can be if I'm writing a track, listening to an mp3 on iTunes, Windows Media Player, Quicktime or the Internet.

It's especially frustrating as this is a new computer. I've gone through a bunch of articles to tweak XP for audio, but obviously, still won't do the trick.

I was also reading about IRQ conflicts. What's the best way to check and/or find out if this is a problem? How can I know if this is the issue? Any other suggestions???

Thanks!

In the case of an IRQ conflict, you just plain wouldn't hear sounds. Windows should give you an error any everthing in Device manager. Check that out just to be on the safe side, but I seriously doubt it's a conflict...

If you still feel strongly about a conflict of some sort, there can be problems with "sharing" IRQs. Usally, just switching PCI slots will change the IRQ settings.

Different drivers might help. Try both newer and older ones...

Ok, thanks. Good suggestions.

I was also reading that someone replaced their PCI graphics card for an AGP and it fixed the audio situation.

Do people generally have issues between their soundcards and a PCI graphics card???

You have PCI graphics but that kind of sound card? Are you sure you didn't mis-read something?

Um, but anyway, it's been a while since I've dealt with IRQ stuff, but I beleive they can be placed anywhere. So, you could technically have a conflict with an AGP and PCI card. So, it really shouldn't make that much of a difference besides having a new card in there and possibly being assigned another IRQ. Though, I do think many computer try to assign certain IRQs to certain devices.

Um...did I just confuse you more? :o
