Audio skipping in stream

Hi,

I'm having some problems with audio. I've been using Windows XP because, quite honestly, I couldn't be bothered to upgrade to & and I loathe Vista.

My computer has a Realtek onboard sound module and on streaming and playback I get distortion and skipping.

The embarrassing thing is I'm a sound engineer. lol. I have an external soundcard that started skipping and after some research I realised it could well be driver conflict with a Logitech HD Webcam I installed. However, I've reinstalled XP a couple of times and I'm still having the problems.

Actually, further to this. I'm experiencing a general staggering lagging affect whilst typing. It could be said this is my keyboard but it's hard not to wonder if there's some kind of connection. I'm a sloppy typist at times, but even so...

I'm wondering if I should just make a plunge to Windows 7 because XP is just being crap and it's time to move on. Most of the programs I use were made in the Win7 era, but some were not, which is why I haven't bothered to upgrade yet. I have a few projects that I need to sign off in XP but I have NO idea why the sound suddenly started to do this.

There's nothing wrong with the hardware. I'm sure of it. I've had a few PCs, I build this one, it should be fine it's less than two years old and I know that everything is compatible. It was fine for ages.

Any advice?

Depends on what software & Hardware your computer has and what conflicts if any...
What was the last few changes have you done to the PC before the problems happened as this might be the cause.
Have you tried a restore point on the PC to see if this eliminates the problem?
Have you been in the Bios settings as this could cause a few problems if not set correctly...
