Audio recording

Ok heres my dilemma, i am using a program called snagit to record something on webcam(screen capture program) i want to record the audio of the person on the other end not my own audio... would all i have to do is to get a Y headphone splitter use my headphones on one end and a stero plug going from the audio out jack to the recording jack? it seems simple enough, but will it work...:confused:
 
That could just create a huge feedback loop, with the recorded sound playing back out the through the splitter, back in the recording port.....

If you can mute the output of your audio recording program though I can see no reason it wouldn't work. You're not gonna do any harm anyway, give it a shot
 
Audacity - You can change it to record what you hear out of your speakers a very good Program - Here is it's website

I use it and i think it is the best free audio cutting / editting software available.
 
What im doing is having a video call on msn, and i want to record their video and there speech, and not hear what im saying. so i can play it back for a presentation later on ..
 
well record the screen - search camstudio and it records the screen as well as the heard audio.
 
Figured it out, im using snagit which i previously had, just had to download a new driver from SigmaTel for my audio card (for some reason they left out the stereo mix feature on the dell 6400 laptops, maybe dell did it?).. problem is fixed, thanks for the help
