I was just wondering what media playing programs you guys use for the best quality of music or is there any programs you can use to make the music sound a little better. sort of a strange question, but I was just wondering.

Thanks

What do you mean by making the sound quality better?? Are you talking about sound editing???

If you are talking about enhancing the quality of the music and sound files by editing the original wave of the song or music file, then I recommend the Sound Forge, it's one of the best sound editing programs with lots of features and effects. Sound forge is for easy medium level sound editing, which makes it very suitable for most normal users like you and me.

If you are looking for professional music editing programs, there are other heavy programs which are similar to those used in studio computers like Logic Audio, Cool Edit, Cake Wake and the likes. These programs are sophisticated and contain a lot of features in which you need to be a musician in order to be able to understand them and use them properly.

your computer is going to process sound at 32 bit (windows) and that is even higher than it is recorded (a cd can be nothing other than 16 bit). so my point is, the computer/software isn't what is lacking, it's the hardware. you have a chain that goes

sound treating the room (if you wanna get real crazy)
^
speakers
^
amplifier
^
preamp/equalizer (the sound card)
^
d/a convertors (digital to analog, that's the cound card)
^
computer

upgrading all of those things, or at least a few, are the only thing that will give you better sound. a chain is only as good as its weakest link... there is no way around it...

you don't have to spend an arm and a leg either, i would start with getting a new sound card. if you have an external amplifier for your speakers, get a "usb audio interface" which are $50-$100 at any music store... otherwise, if your speakers are self-powered, get a new internal soundcard...
