audio problem

Hey Guys.
I have a logitech USB 250 head set (headphones with microphone)
i use them for skype. but when i plug them into my computer they set the default speakers to the headphones
is there a way that i can set it so that the headset only uses the microphone and not the headphones
or
skype is the only application that uses the headset and all other applications use my X540's
 
It will be under the control panel > audio settings / sound settings, try that.... also it will be the setting under skype.
