Hi, Ive been fooling with this problem for a while now. Ive researched on this forum and found someone with the same problem Ecko_Blue. I am using an OEM version of window xp home ed. , with the ASUS p4s800d-e deluxe motherboard which had the intergrated audio by soundmax.

When trying to install my audio driver this happens at the end of the install:

SEVERE
-------------------------------------------------
Driver not found. Reboot the system and try again.

Ive tryed everthing i could think of. I have the original install disk. I tried reinstalling windows, deleting all other audio driver, many different versions of the driver. At first I thought it could be service pack problems but i went through alkinds of differ updates sp1 then sp1a then sp2 still nothing. I had to recently rebuy windows xp and start from scratch agian over a long story. But on my other version of window which was the retail version I had no problems. This is the OEM version so im starting to think thats the problem. Any suggestions please help thanks

While the OEM disk could be missing something needed due to being an earlier
release of XP or a recovery instead of full install disk an update at Asus could
be tried to see if it worked. Otherwise the retail disk that works well with the
original drivers would be the one to go with. That could avoid other problems
that could come up later as well.

I'm not familiar with your motherboard, but I had had a similar problem. Mine is an Intel Centrino motherboard with a built in sound card, what I did was was go to the Intel site and they had a driver there that supported SoundMax and that fixed my problem.

So i suggest you have a prowl around the Asus site in the driver section and see what you can find, sometimes the driver that comes with your motherboard/soundcard is not always the best one to go with it.

VERY IMPORTANT: The driver you need IS NOT your motherboard driver!
