Audigy 2ZS or X-Fi?

I've been wanting to upgrade from my onboard sound for a while, and im debating between two cards, the Audigy 2ZS Platinum and X-Fi Platinum.

It's obvious that the X-Fi's better, but i can get an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum for ~$80-$85 on eBay, or the X-Fi Platinum for $185 on Newegg.

I want the front panel I/O board as well, so dont tell me to get the X-Fi Xtreme Music :P. So really my question is, would an Audigy 2ZS be a worthwhile upgrade, or should i wait a few weeks and get an X-Fi Platinum? And if anyone can point out some major differences between the two (besides 24-Bit Crystalizer and CMSS3D), that would also help.

Audigy 2ZS Platinum is well worth getting it.. I got it when it first came out and I have to tell you that I'm not intending to upgrade it for anything else right now.. I'm very pleased with the performance,, and This is the only card so far that do everthing I expect it to do..
So for the price I recommend to go with Audigy 2ZS Platinum...

I have been a big fan of the X-Fi series. I had the Xtrememusic but im selling it now. It was very good and I am sure the platinum is even better.

The funny thing is, i used to have an Audigy 2ZS and an X-Fi Xtreme-Music, but i sold both of them.

I do like the X-Fi, but the price for the audigy 2zs is very tempting. Also, the only difference between the music and platinum is the front panel, the sound card is exactly the same.

i may be wrong here but isn't the platnium thx certified? and is the x-fi? i think i would go with the zs just because for price and there wouldn't be that much of a more differance for the price tags.

Although I personally own an X-Fi Fatal1ty, I think for the price difference, like holyjunk said, it's not worth it. I only bought mine because I wanted the best money could buy, so I could hear the biggest difference over AC97 audio. But to be honest, the sound will still be awesome from the ZS.

Why did you sell your other two cards?

I sold the Audigy 2ZS to buy an X-Fi, and i sold the X-Fi because i wanted more money for other components.

I think the X-Fi sounds much better than the Audigy 2ZS, especially with the CMSS 3D effect for headphones.

But i decided to wait a while before buying it, so i got an Audigy eX Platinum on eBay for $33.

for headphones or speakers? for music or games/moves?
The biggest difference was with the headphones, I didnt notice much of a difference with my speakers. And i noticed the difference in games, as well as music.

i was asking if the sound card would be for those things.

glad you hear a difference though :)

I personally think the X-Fi series are better than the Audigys, the X-Fi Platinum is obviously alot better, but im sure for your needs the Audigy is fine. Your not in a band or something are you? Or into serious recording? Either one will do perfect, so you might as well save and get the Audigy, I would rather just a an Xtrememusic so I keep the X-Fi though, and save even more.

Obviously the X-Fi's are better, but i just didnt want to spend $200 on one... $35 for an audigy is fine ;)

THe Audigy (not audigy 2) is very complicated trying to setup the external part, since you need a seperate PCI card, as well as 4 huge wires going to it from the sound card. So my case is a big mess right now :P

can anyone tell me, does this audigy 2zs have multiple outputs? (realy looking at getting one myself [-OMEGA-].)
