Yeah, if it's a new Celeron, those are pretty darn fast, all things considered. Most any model would outperform an Atom, but I know my mom's Celeron (forget the model, but it's about 2 years old) is technically faster than my Core2 laptop, but just single core.

The Celeron would be better if it's fairly recent, but you are comparing a netbook to a notebook, which isn't a fair comparison.

Atoms have 512kb of cache while the celeron has 1mb of cache

new intel atom n330's have 1mb of cache, hyperthreading, and have actually quite a bit of processing power. what holds the systems back is the intel 945 chipset. any laptop or desktop with an Ion chipset is muuuuch faster :good:

It bothers me that Intel would even release the first Atom Processors that had pathetic processing power. The first Atom processors were slower than the older Pentium 4 Processors. I guess the $$$ was more important to Intel at the time then releasing a quality product.

The purpose of the Atom was not for performance, it was designed to be used in ultra-mobile devices for superior battery performance, and low heat dispersion compared to Intel's other processors.

I can see Atom Processors being placed in small electronic equipment but I think it is a waste to put Atom Processors in laptops when there are so many better options with processors. I am also seeing Atom processors being put in All-In-One Desktop Personal Computers.

my desktop Atom plays CoD4 lol. its not as underpowered as you may think. and where my main desktop uses upwards of 400W, this one never uses more than 30. hell my monitor takes more power than this whole computer, and it plays 1080p movies, games, surfs web, all that good stuff, while saving us on the power bill :)

That is a netbook, I haven't seem them in laptops, but of course I haven't searched for them. And the only PC's I've seen with them are the ultra small HP computers, which are basically laptop components.
