Are two heads better than one?

Is it a good idea to have two programs that do the same thing (fight viruses, speed up the computer and free up storage) installed on your computer or smartphone?

No.

A common problem I see on a lot of my customer's computers is that they'll often have the original trial virus software that came with the computer along with another anti-virus program or two they've installed. This can severely slow down older or low end computers and can cause all sorts of problems and antivirus programs often do not like to play nice with eachother.

It's good to remove as much redundancy as possible when it comes to programs that you have constantly running the background.

It can be good, but in a lot of cases having 2 of the same programs running at the same time can cause interference between the two which makes it even less efficient then just running one of them.

I dont do it, but it should be fine. Just dont run both at the same time. Plus sometimes one will see a virus in the other ones quarantine and claim you have a virus. lol

True!

Take Fraps and ZD soft game recorder for an example. They BOTH record game play, but if you have them BOTH running at the same time,MOST of the things will be crashing like crazy on your system...even Windows Media Player won't work lol.

Well actually I have McAfee+McAfee AntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti Malware running at the same time.Still nothing bad has happened.Of course when I am scanning the system,I never scan my system with both of them in the same time.:D
By the way McAfee scans my system for almost 10 hours every time haha where Malwarebytes at FULL SCAN takes only 50 minutes xD

I use MalwareBytes and MSE at the same time, and I even do a full computer scan at the same time without any problems, so no compatibility issues there.
But I have heard that certain Anti-Virus Programs do not get together well, but have yet to experience it.

Antivirus and spyware/malware are different. You should never run 2 antvirus suites, however you can run as many malware (e.g. superantispyware, malwarebytes etc) as you like.

Absolutely correct.

All hell will break loose if you try to run two Anti Virus' at the same time.

where a suite has an antivirus, either chose it and then malware, but not both that and another antivirus.

No you did not get my question.

I am asking is whether all the anti-virus softwares have compatibility issues with other anti virus softwares or only some of them do not work with others?

No i got your question fine. No two antivirus software can be used together regardless of whether they are in a suite or not.

Does the McAfee scan hinder or interfere with your computer operations in any way?

This is not a logical statement Stars.

One is either running or it is not.

mate, your scan makes no difference. a malware (spyware etc) scan will work on top of your installation. A virus scanner needs to embed into the OS to work, thus why it cannot work in tandem with another version.
