Anyone got an idea? [pw prompt at startup]

A bit of a strange problem...just wana see if anyones got an ideas.

I set my computer (Windows XP Home, 32Bit, SP2) to prompt for password after resuming from a system standby, although whenever I resume (turn back on) my computer from a standby state, it NEVER prompts for the password.

I have set this option in my toshiba power settings (Toshiba Satellite A70RW1) and yet it will not ask for a password when resuming from standby.

A few other quick things to mention, I have disabled hibernation on my computer...my computer IS able to prompt for a password after the screensaver comes on (which i configured to 15 minutes and told it to ask for password after resuming from screensaver)...and lastly, It has worked before (a year or so ago before my most recent reformat).

Any ideas anyone?

thx:)

I dunno, maybe because I have a corporate desk job, but you should just get into the habit of locking your computer. We talking XP or better here? Just set a password for your user account and lock it. Then it can go into standby/screensaver or whatever you'd like and no one will be able to gain access.

I use that a lot. We've got cats, and the last thing I need is a cat messing up Word docs and my games. Also a great young visiting sibling deterrent.

Hey, Thanks for the reply. While this is certainly helpful, it does not address the problem I seem to be having...but I guess no one else has any suggestions into how to get my computer to request for a password after resuming from standby...even though I have already enabled that option in the power settings...?

In general it should go back to user accounts when in standby so this should work. Otherwise there should be settings to make it auto-lock after a period of time. Or you could go the whole screen saver password thingy and set your screensaver to go on after a period of time, but I find that to be annoying myself.

More than likely your computer is going into sleep mode. You usually only go into standby if you set the power button to standby in the power options. If you want this your password settings to take effect you can use the Windows + L as mentioned above or you can set it so everytime you press the power button your computer will go into standby.
