Hey

Anyone running the Creative X-Fi sound card?
Bought one today, its installed and working
havent been able to try any sound out loudly
But i can tell a BIG difference in how crisp things sound.

Any one having problems?
any tips or tricks with this card?

Which version of Windows are you running? If you are running Vista you can use an auto updater by selecting the model from the list seen at http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/popup_supportproducts.asp

For XP avoid the July 2007 web updater3 since that will put Vista drivers on as well as the option for hardware updates seen at the MS update site. The XtremeGamer is in use here with the XtremeAudio model sitting in it's box when that was first seen on the recent build here.

I've had two, I bought the XtremeMusic when they first came out and I had the Fatal1ty FPS up until a few weeks ago. They were good cards, and worked great with headphones. I just didn't have high end speakers to notice much of a difference with the card. Now I have a real receiver so I have no need for a sound card other then integrated.

ive only got a creative soundblaster live! sound card, and i know its better than onboard audio that comes in PC's today, despite the fact that its around 10 years old.
24 bit sound, 5.1 capabilities :)

Thanks everyone

im not sure what update i installed lastnight.

When i first installed the software for the car di did the minimum install options on everything
well half of the programs that did install wouldnt work
like the Console launcher
and some other things

so i uninstalled everything and tried it again with all the installs at full
No problems now!

i've got Logitecd Z-2300 speakera

high end if you ask me for how much they cost
and they sound AWESOME
i've also got a set of Z-2200 series which sound great to
but dont have as much bass

The update was most likely a Vista version that caused problems especially with the audio console. Once those go on XP you can't change modes or do much else.

With the XtremeAudio first used here I found that out fast when replacing it with the Gamer model only to see that Vista drivers were being installed on XP. You ran into the same thing by the looks of things.

i dont think thats what happend..

because the first time i installed it i didnt install any of the updates, and i only did the partial install of things for the "better performance" option

and things werent working..

2nd time i did full installs on everything and the updates and it working great

I trust you are running Vista there to see those results. With the Audio and then assuming a problem with that I went with the Gamer model to still see the installer, MS update site, and download after selecting XP as the version at Creative's support site put Vista drivers on.

That problem was identified when the July update with no other between that and the Dec. 06 update come up with "web installer3 for Vista" where I immediately canceled the installer and went back for the Dec. 06 version being web updater1. No web updater2 has been found to this day.

When going for an update for Vista on the last build the card was the Audigy 4 Pro there and you could easily find the update for the version of Windows you were running. That was a goof on their part tossing a Vista update when selecting XP there.

Well now you know what will happen when using any auto update method and see any Creative update available message. Which model are you running there? If you decide to go for an update look for a Dec. 2006 date rather then seeing a set of Vista drivers put on since that was one goof on their part there.
