I have onboard sound, and i use my computer for gaming. I have only got a 2.1 speaker system would i get any improvments in sound or in game if i got a soundblaster card for around £30.

I think there would be a slight difference. Of course more speakers would make it sound better.

Certain games also sound better with certain types of cards becasue they have sound technologies that are compatible with eachother. Atleast I always thought it worked that way.

Basically, if you are really that disapointed with the sound quality you are currently getting then upgrade, but otherwise I would save the money for soemthing else.

yeah get a sound card because the onboard sound uses up your system resources ie cpu mem

That is what I was thinking as well. But with 2GB of RAM I dont think he will notice much of a difference when it comes to speed. Atleast with current day games he wont.

well as bob said you got 2gig worth of ram but i would get a seperate sound card anyway seperate cards are always better than integrated

It just uses your CPU, a sound card processes itself, intergrated uses the CPU. It wont be anything more then a 1fps notice on your system, if even that.

If you are looking to get better sound, I would honestly look into getting high quility speakers first, or if you have the money upgrade sound card and the speakers. IME speakers make more of adifferent then the sound card itself.
