Any Advice for an aspiring Software Engineer ? OR Any Computer related Career

I have been interested in computers ever since I came in contact with one in elementary school as well as science. I am currently attending college in pursuit of an AS degree in computer science, and after that I will pursue my BS, and if I have the money- I will move on to a masters if I can. (I would love to become a Software Engineer). Also I live in California, where there would hopefully be alot of opportunities for my career of choice...

So here are my questions:
1. What advice can you give me that will help me with this pursuit?

2. If you are currently in the computer field (prefferably a software engineer, but I would love to hear from all of you! =] ) could you please tell me how you got where you are (how did you start, any education, what did you go through etc) ? -and do you like your current job/career, and please explain your answer? -do you plan to move forward? if so, how?

3. Is there another career you would like to recommend? or any other comments etc at all that you would like to say?

Thank you all very much in advance. I would love to hear from you all even from the smallest comment to the largest I would be very happy (and look forward) to read 'em all! :D

This would be a big help for me and I believe it could point out things that I missed etc...

The key is to really do something to stick out. A BS will get you pretty much nowhere since everyone and their grandma is in this field right now. You need a MS these days. Do that w/ honors and you're definitely set.

I am a software engineer and i have a Masters in Information techonlogy from University of Phoenix i'm also currently enrolled in project management courses to be certified in project management.. if you want to be a programmer.. Start now get out there and find the language you want to do.. I do mostly .net and c# but also some old school vb6 programming.. its all up to you and your needs... Definately go for a masters and program all you can at home. Download a complier and start playing.. there are plenty of free things out there and you can download videos to help as well... Feel freee to pm me or email me if you have any other questions i will try to help you..
