anonymous network

My pc is connected wirelessly, 3 in total, mine, my brothers and the server machine downstairs. My brother said that his machine is anonymous because it is behind the network, but surely it would just display the ip of the computer downstairs, it would just be my ip given by the isp?

Thanks in advance ;)

Both his internal and external ip's will be shown. The ISP's IP address will be shown and is not hidden just because you have a router, which is a common misconception. The router's ip will also be visible and will be something like 192.168.1.101. A lot of people think that because they have a router, their ip address is hidden. This is not true. If you don't believe me, check http://www.whatismyip.com/

That shows your isp's IP address.

????????
For one thing, there are two ip's that you are confusing as one.
Internal IP: The ip of your actual machine and it's connection to the router. This is the internal network IP to connect between trusted sources on your network (ie. Everyone connected to your router)
External IP: Provided to you by your ISP allowing you to connect to external sources. This IP is the router's external IP address, not any of your machines (in this case).

The router's internal IP should be something like 192.168.1.1 and all your machines connecting to it will be along the lines of 192.168.1.100 (settings dependant). The external IP is what www.whatismyip.com shows you, this is the external connection to your router and can vary from time to time unless you have an account set up with your ISP to have a static IP address.

This way, all your internet activity is accessed by the router under a single IP address, when information requested by a certain machine arrives, the router sends that information to your internal IP.
