I am having a serious sound issue that I have no idea how to fix. I just built this PC from scratch for my g/f. Everything worked fine except the on-board audio was shot (traced this problem to being shorted mobo). So I went out and picked up a run-of-the-mill nothing special sound card from a local pc store just to get it running. Its been working fine, until recently. I installed CoD2 and AoEIII on here. The sound will temporarily work fine, but at random times (while playing either game or even just music), all of a sudden the sound goes haywire. All sound goes away and is replaced by something that sounds like a motor boat. This lasts approx. 10 seconds and then slows and trails off. Sometimes sound returns after it is done, sometimes it doesn't and I have to restart the computer to regain sound.

I am completely confused and at a loss. ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you install any/the latest drivers for it? Sounds to me like you just bunged it in and started using it...

I also forgot to mention (dunno if this will help diagnose or not) but the PC gets hardcore laggy when this "motorboat" sound occurs.
