In the next two weeks ill be adding a second computer in my household. Both rooms have coaxial cables ran already. Would it be better to get a router and run a new ethernet cable or should i just get a 2nd cable modem. ALso what are the best cable modems on the markt today

soo theres no way 2 modems would work?? cause i think it would be hard to run wires through the basement and up into the 2nd room for the router

You could use either one I guess, but the cable modem would most likely cost more, and may have additional monthly fees.

What you can do is buy a wireless router, and then have a wireless card in the computer downstairs.

A router is the proper way, and easier, and cheaper to do, but a new modem would be the easest way to do.

If you do get a router(which I would recommend) and you have a desktop computer on different floors thats not going to be moving around, I would get a wired router and just run the cable though the wall, it's actually simple to do, you just have to not be phobic about attics :P

yeah i never liked wireless routing i always get disconnects and problems with it at school i need a wired one. any good ones you suggest.

It would be cheaper to have a router than two modems/two internet connections. However, you could certinally do that, even though a network... But, the best option is a router. Wireless would do just fine, but just make sure you don't have much interference to mess up the signal...

Router would be the best choice. Different ISP supports different modems so even if you find the best one, your ISP might not support it. Just get a router and wire them together as many have suggested so you wont have to worry about disconnections and what not like you said.

As far as the routers, I have a linksys and it works flawlessly. There are many others such as D-Link and Netgear also that you can look into.
