When I try to open the pdf my colleague (he's the one with Acrobat itself) created from my Word document, which includes a picture, I get the message "AcroRd32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will have to restart the program." and then Acrobat Reader closes. The point at which I get the message seems to be where the picture starts to be built.

Older pdfs made the same way work fine.

Any ideas?
 
Have you tried upgrading or even downgrading your copy of Acrobat? How about tried the document on another computer? Or tried getting it again (if the image was partly corrupt from now downloading completely or something) Honestly though, I never liked Acrobat/Reader. I personally use a clone called Foxit Reader which I find to be much faster and more stable. You may want to give it a shot too and see if it works any better.
