I know this sounds very, very newbish ;) (and it's because I am)

Do you need a sound card to get "sound" from a custom pc? I am building one and I don't know if I need it or not :D
 
Most motherboards got integrated high quality multi channel sound thus no reason for a sound card. Hovewer if you have very high demands and want the best audio possible you should invest in a separate soundcard.
