A question regarding MTU

Hello,

I recently bought a belkin adsl high speed modem/router from comet and the guy in the store told me that If I use IE or firefox that I needed to change the MTU on the router to 1400 as the default if 1480 (i think) so anyways he wrote this down and I simply assumed it was something I would change in the browser config when doing my initial configuration.

My connection as been up and down and whilst setting up the modem/router there is no mention of any MTU setting, could someone please advise me what MTU is and how to change it.

Thanks
Mike

MTU is the maximum transmission unit, but have you managed to get the internet working wthout changning it, if so i would just leavfe it as it is

Thanks, I have just read a little about MTU. If I keep getting disconnected though after only a few minutes at times is that not becuase The MTU is not set correctly? or would it simply not connect in the first place.

It may be because of that, maybe try changing it and if you see an improvement it will obviously indicate as the MTU was the problem, if not i don;t really know as i haven't really heard much about this before
