7.1 in game's ?

Im planning on buying a X-fi extreme music card (138$ cad) or a X-fi platinium 7.1 (215$ cad).

Is game of today make use of the 7.1 surround sound? Like in call of duty 2. Does the sound in the 2 extra speaker to your left and right is extra sound ( like if someone walk and fire to your left) or it's just the same sound as the speaker's of behind?

What would u buy? It's only for game's.
 
get the fatality one it is about 200 and made for games, there is actually hardware to support full EAX for gaming in only the fatality model.

I'm not sure where your hearing this, but the Fatal1ty FPS is exactly the same as the Platinum, except it has a different name and has 64MB of XRAM. The only reason why it's considered the "gamers sound card", is because the 64MB of XRAM provides enhanced performance in games, and the front panel is designed for gamers, and the Elite Pro is more for professionals.
