7.1/5.1 audio?

it is 7.1!

if you have 6 different plugs your sound system is 5.1 but your motherboard is 7.1 (backwards compatable) , just match the colours and plug them in, you motherboard sound driver will detect 6 inputs and switch to 5.1

Okay, well in 2-3 months I'll buy a new system, give this one to my brother. Right now I guess I'm using 2.1? I have a sub woofer under my desk, which has 2 speakers that connect to that, then I have the control, then I have a wire that connects the sub woofer to the computer.

Yes, 2.1

2.1 = Two channels (left and right) with one sub-woofer.

2.0 = Two channels (left and right) with no sub-woofer.
5.1 = Five channels (left, right, center, left surround, right surround) with one sub-woofer.
7.1 = Seven channels (left, right, center, mid-left surround, mid-right surround, rear-left surround, rear-right surround) with one sub-woofer.

So wait, if I'm understanding what your saying. With 5.1 you can put the two left speakers just right next to each other, and the two right next to each other? Or do that get spaced out evenly.

5 is front left, center, right and back left, right

7 is the same with left and right sides as well

.1 is your subwoofer. If you plug in 2 subwoofers, it becomes .2 :)
