5.1 Music in Vista..

whenever I play music, be it in windows media player or iTunes, sound only comes out of the front right, front left, and subwoofer. For games though, it comes out of all of them and when I click 'configure speakers' all 6 of the speakers pass the testing noise in Vista.

I have the integrated 7.1 card (Realtek AC something) on the Gigabyte P35-DS3R, and in device manager under sound controllers, it shows "High Definition Audio Device" driver by microsoft...will installing a realtek driver split the sound into all 5 speakers?

I know iTunes didn't support surround sound initially, but I believe they fixed that in the more recent versions (7.2 or so). Make sure you have updated and then try again.

And give WinAMP a try. It mirrors the audio to the rear channel speakers (not true surround) but it does support surround. Just to see if it works there.

had same problem with vista and onboard sound, i tried all the drivers and noo good, so i just went and bought a sound card ,works better than onboard

Go to control panel, (in classic view) click sound, right click on 'Speakers', click properties, then the enhancments tab, and check the box 'speaker fill'. I just use WMP and it seems to work really good. Only some of the sound comes out of the rear speakers, while the left right and center all play it normally.
