5.1 from tv to comp to 5.1

I have a nice pair of 5.1 speakers laying around for a computer (so they have the 3 inputs) however i want to hock them up to my tv. I was thinking of taking fiber from tv out to the fiber input in the computer and then to the output. Does anyone know of a good way to do this... I can use linux of windows if it is easer one way.

Optical or coax should work fine... your computer should work as a decoder and play back as 5.1

do you mean it will aready be a decoder or do i have to get some software?

I'm pretty sure the soundcard would automatically decode it and everything...

ok i need help. so i tried it and it works with a ps2. but on the tv, dvr, and the ps3 there is nothing. I think i need a codac. I think all use dolby digital 5.1. Is there a way i can get it or what?

Or, could it be my sound card? It came with the computer so i dont know if it can handle 5.1. Could that effect it to just not work? if so, is there any 5.1 optical input cards that are cheep?
