5.1 Concept

I have an idea for a 5.1 surround sound setup, but i don't know if it would work.
The idea is to use 3 2channel stereo amps, and have the 1st driving the front, the 2nd driving the rear, and the 3rd driving the center(left channel) and Subwoofer(right channel). I have 2 amps from the late 80's, and i might be able to get another one, but i was just wondering if the idea would work, i have a basic schematic that i made in MS paint below.

Yes it will work. The only problem I see is if you would wanted to increase the subwoofers volume your center's volume would have to increase as well. Maybe going with a sub that has a plate amp mounted on it would be a better solution. They can be found for a relatively low price. There is a chance though that you might be able to control the independent channels volume within the software but that depends on your sound card.

You are doing whats is called separates but usually instead of a computer you would use a multi channel pre-amp something like this: Emotiva UMC-1 with studio amps instead of integrated's like these : Emotiva XPA-2

cool, thx guys, i just wanted to see if it would work, i have the front and rear set up, and in quadraphonic mode, and it sounds awesome, just missing the LFE. :D
