How much of arctic silver was i supposed to put on the CPU? i put alot... im gonna take it off rigt now but my temps are 46idle/42 idle at startup. and around 50c at gaming. OCing. is the temps too high?

the idle temp seems too high but the load temp doesnt.

id have to call it an inaccurate diode, but id reapply the AS5 just in case.
mine never reads higher than 45C on a hot day..

Considering what the idle temp is compared to the load temp, that's amazing for a load temp. Normally you see the load temp at least 15C+ to that of the idle temp. The only temp I worry about is the load temp. If it isn't climbing over 55C I wouldn't worry about it.

Its a 2.8 Ghz Intel Proesscor With Hyperthreading. i turned it on with overclocking. am i wrong? is hyperthreading supposed to be on when oevrclocking ?

oh yeah. had a INTEL P3 Intel 400Mhz overclocked at 600. Idle temps were
63C + .... so i can understand why it runs with restarts, lockups, and shutdowns... 63C was scary! idle too . applied cheapo white "thermal paste" and it dropped down to 33C... amazing!

old CPUs can withstand high temps, thats y they can oc better but 500mhz oced 1ghz what can that do? I remember old CPU's dont even need a fan.

what software can i use to measure my temps for free? i had a MOTHERBOARD something software on my 1.3 and it said my CPU was 304C hot~!!!!!????????????????

My wife's computer is a P4 3.2ghz and it idles hotter than that, of course it has the stock hsf and one 80mm fan on the case. I wouldn't worry about those temps.

Ok,... dammit i think i put too much paste.. >(!~!!!! and of yeah, today i put some more paste, startup is 38C (well when it posts done and i get into BIOS...) but i need something to measure the temp when playing NFS too see the temps...

oh yeah: my CPU cooling fan is a SPIRE cooling fan... ive got a spire case too (one in my 2.8 and 1 in my 1.3) ... is cooling good for it ? spire blackfin III... 2 3 case fansin 2.8. (one off of CPU cooler and 2 case fans 80mm)... I found the exactly same case fan on newegg. claims 40something CFM at 4000+ RPM. Mine spins at 3200/3400 RPM. ???????? what is happening? it had same tag too!

speedfan is free and can check your temps.. there is another one too, cant think of the name though sorry.. try speedfan though...:D
